Studio Quarters

Bondi 1

The Bondi Terrace explores methods to draw in light and openness into a space that is traditionally known to be introverted with individual, dedicated rooms.

The design focuses on ensuring all spaces are usable, serving multiple purposes for a busy young family. Structural changes were made sparingly to respect the existing fabric of the home.

Tactile materials were carefully selected in the application of joinery and soft furnishings to enhance the experience of a warm and comfortable family home.

Tonal changes in colour add interest as one moves from room to room, with an overall calmness that permeates the whole house. It was paramount to retain as much of the existing fabric as possible; for budget and historical purposes as this is what drew the client to the house. The design involved collaborating with some of Sydney’s best joiners and furniture makers. Carefully crafted custom pieces of furniture complimented the interior with the most significant piece being the organic shaped mahogany dining table fabricated from timber that was gifted to the client by her father.

The result is an interior that seamlessly weaves the old and the new, respecting the history of the house whilst modernising it to suit contemporary life.
